The majority of principals in schools with fewer than 200 students in the Central Province have informed the Education Department that they would report for duty on October 21 when the schools open.
Provincial Director of Education Amarasiri Piyadasa said the principals of 550 out of 805 schools in the Kandy, Matale and Nuwara Eliya Districts have consented to attend to their duties as usual. He was hopeful that several others, although not yet formally informed, would report for duties.
Director of Education said school buildings in 13 Education Zones were being refurbished by parents and state institutions under the supervision of those principals. He said a programme to improve the mental condition of the children would be held before commencing the usual academic activities.
