A prison guard on duty at the old Bogambara Prison has been suspended for taking money from suspects sent for quarantine through eZ cash, the Prisons Department said.
Prisons Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said the remanded suspects being sent to Old Bogambara Prison for quarantine before they are sent to serve a jail term.
It was revealed that a guard at the prison was getting money from the suspects through eZ cash to provide various facilities.
Further investigation revealed that the guard had taken Rs.9,000 from three suspects. Hence, the Prisons Headquarters has suspended him with immediate effect.
