A divisional secretary from the Nuwara Eliya district is alleged to have sexually abused male minor employees. The victims were minor employees recruited as assistants of miscellaneous duties under the government’s programme to provide employment to under qualified young men.
Nuwara Eliya District Secretary Nandana Galaboda in a press release said yesterday that Nuwara Eliya police had already initiated investigations into the incident. He said the district secretariat had already held a separate departmental investigation based on complaints received from the employees concerned. He said statements of the complainants and several officials of the Divisional Secretariat had been recorded. District Secretary said the Divisional Secretary concerned had already been transferred out of the district and attached to the State Ministry of Public Administration pending investigation.
District Secretary reiterated that he would extend his cooperation to the on going investigation and refuted the false allegations against him made by a journalist in the district.
