Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) leader MP Udaya Gammanpila said yesterday Sri Lanka faced the risk of mandatory implementation of the provisions of the upcoming UNHRC resolution to qualify for international financial assistance if it were adopted in Geneva this time.

There is a new resolution now before the UNHRC. Making his remarks to the press, Mr. Gammanpila said this would be different to the resolutions adopted in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2021.

“If the current resolution is adopted, Sri Lanka will face the risk of mandatory implementation of its provisions to qualify for financial assistance to get over the current economic crisis,” he said.

He said it is important for the government to work for securing 24 votes out of the 47- member council to defeat the upcoming resolution.

“If we work hard, we can get the required number this time,” he said.
