If the people were able to stay at home amidst the existing traffic restrictions, it will be possible to open the country in some way after June 14, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.

He said the decision to reopen the country is in the hands of the people and the people should abide by the quarantine regulations and provide maximum assistance to the health sector.

He also urged people not to leave the house for any reason other than essential work. Meanwhile, DIG Rohana said that steps will be taken to introduce another special sticker for vehicles travelling within the traffic restrictions for essential services from today. He said that it would apply to the entire period for which the travel restrictions apply.

The spokesman said that vehicles arriving in Colombo for essential services will have to provide information at one place and there may be a delay while taking the details. He said this new system has been introduced to prevent inconvenience to those travelling for essential services.
