The Meteorology Department said due to low-level atmospheric disturbances persisting in the vicinity of the country, there would be a possibility of minor flood situations occurring and the predominating rainy weather conditions will continue until next Wednesday (19).
The department’s Director General, Athula Karunanayaka, said heavy rains exceeding 100 mm could be expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and North-Western provinces.
He said thunder showers could be expected in the Western, Southern, North-Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Eastern provinces.
The Meteorology Department responded by issuing a red alert (high risk) for 13 districts, including Puttalam, Kurunegala, Matale, Gampaha, Kandy, Kegalle, Nuwara Eliya, Colombo, Kalutara, Ratnapura, Galle, Matara, and Hambantota.
