Former MP Ranjan Ramanayake is expected to be released from prison this week, one of the lawyers retained by him told Dailymirror yesterday.
He said Mr. Ramanayake had submitted an apology to the judiciary for contempt of court. It was reported earlier, quoting legal experts including the Attorney General, that he could be pardoned if he submitted a written apology to courts.
“There is no confirmed date for release of Mr. Ramanayake, but I think that he would be released this week,” he said.
Mr. Ramanayake was serving a prison sentence after he was convicted for contempt of court in 2021.
