Refrain from sending children to schools even if they show slight symptoms of fever, cold, or cough

Firm attention should be paid when sending children to school and they should not be sent in crowded vehicles to school, The Director of the Lady Ridgeway Hospital (LRH) for Children in Colombo Dr.G.Wijesuriya emphasized.  

He told the media that parents should pay constant and close attention to the health condition of their children before sending them to school and advised parents not to send them to school if they showed symptoms of fever, cold, or cough.


 “Children should be provided with a facemask and a handkerchief and taught how to wash their hands properly. Parents should pay strict attention to the mode of transport. They should never be sent in overcrowded vehicles,” he said.


Dr. Wijesuriya said special attention should be paid on the behaviour of the children in schools and added that activities involving a large number of children should be limited.


 He said no Covid deaths have been reported at the LRH during the last couple of months. Academic activities of all Government schools commenced from today together with grades 6 to 9.
