In response to former Minister Mangala Samaraweera who quoted a study done by a U.S. university which said that round 20,000 could lose their lives due to COVID virus in Sri Lanka by September this year, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said the health authorities were taking measures to avert such a disaster.
Addressing a press conference, Dr. Herath said similar studies had been done by various bodies even during the first wave of Covid-19 cases, but the government took appropriate measures and arrested the situation.
He said measures were taken at the moment to prevent the current pandemic situation spiralling out of control.
“We don’t say we accept these findings. But, we take note of them and act accordingly. Such a predicament will be there only unless we act,” he said.
