The manager of a cooperative shop belonging to Ginigathhena Multipurpose Cooperative Society who pleaded guilty of selling Kiri Samba rice in excess of the control price was fined Rs. 500,000 by Hatton Magistrate and District Judge M. Farookdeen yesterday.
Nuwara Eliya District Unit of Consumer Affairs Authority had filed action against the Cooperative Society.
Head of the District CAA Unit Amila Ratnayake said they carried out the raid in response to public complaints that the Co-op city was selling Kiri Samba for Rs.100 more than the control price.
