Russia has requested Sri Lanka to accept its Mir Bank card payment system which is meant to circumvent US sanctions against it, a Minister said.
The Bank of Russia’s National Card Payment System (NSPK) runs Mir.
Transport and Highways Minister Bandula Gunawardana who was in Russia recently told Daily Mirror that a number of countries had accepted it .
“There is a request for Sri Lanka to accept it. If it is accepted, we can do a lot more transactions with Russia,” he said.
