The allowance of Rs. 5,000/- given under the government’s relief package is hardly sufficient as one cannot purchase much with it, given the prices of essential goods, an SJB MP said yesterday.
SJB MP Kavinda Jayawardena told a press conference that the Rs. 5000 allowance given to state workers is hardly sufficient as one can purchase very little out of it. “The Rs. 5000 allowance will be over if a state worker purchases a gas cylinder, some rice and one or two tins of canned fish,” the MP said.
Also he said the government has not focused on some sectors such as garment factory workers, fishermen and even private sector workers.
He said the gas crisis is yet to be solved as a new gas cylinder has also exploded on Monday.
“Government is merely printing money and is distributing them,” he also said.
