Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa who officially announced that his party Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) will participate in today’s protest which is jointly organized by trade unions, civil organizations, and other activists said it will continue even if police or security forces try to stop it.
Addressing the media after signing a joint statement with several trade unions, civil movements, Premadasa warned the forces and the police not to interrupt the protest march which will begin from Elphinstone Theatre to Fort Railway Station today. “Don’t try to stop us or lay a finger on us as it is our right to stage protests,” he said. “We are staging this protest against the arrests and against the high taxes imposed on people,” he added. “Some are trying to pass on a false information saying SJB will not participate in the protest but we ensure that we will be in the protest,” he also said.
