The time is ripe to hold an election in order to determine the pulse of the people, Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella said yesterday.
Mr. Kiriella said the government should hold either the provincial council elections or the local government elections.
“Terms of the local bodies end in February and therefore it is possible to hold the election early next year. SJB is ready to support the government to make necessary amendments to the Provincial Council Ordinance so that provincial polls could be held,” Mr. Kiriella said.
“There should be some kind of midterm elections so that the people’s pulse could be determined,” he added.
