Endorsing the request made by MP Professor G. L. Peiris for an election, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Dr. Harsha de Silva yesterday said a general election should be held in March next year as soon as constitutional barriers for the President to call for an election ends.
“Some of the proposals in the interim budget are ones which we also made in the past, but one wonders whether President Ranil Wickremesinghe is able to implement these proposals.

Therefore the President should find ways and means to fulfil these proposals. One must remember that the President gets the opportunity to call for an election in March next year,” he said.
“Even SLPP Chairman G. L. Peiris himself has called for a general election whenever it is possible and also local government elections should be held immediately,” he stressed.
“Some of the proposals which President Wickremesinghe came up with are steps taken by countries such as Vietnam and Bangladesh to revive their respective economies. Countries such as Bangladesh are developing speedily today,” he added.
Also Dr. de Silva said he will do his best to implement the plan prepared by SJB to release Sri Lanka from the debt trap as the Chairman of Public Finance.
