The main Opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) yesterday said it will hold its rally at Salgado Park, Anuradhapura on March 29 even if it is banned by the government.

SJB MP Nalin Bandara Jayamaha told a press conference that his party will hold the rally by force.

“We will hold this rally even by force as it will be the first step towards mobilizing the people to topple the present government,” he said.

“ We cannot  hold elections as such decisions have to be made by the government. However, we will mobilize people to topple the government and the rally in Anuradhapura will be the first step towards such an exercise,” he said.

Both MP Jayamaha and MP S. M. Marikkar said the country is on its way to a complete shutdown, with bus services and the railway services expected to come to a standstill in a few days time.“We have been told that even three-wheelers will come to a halt,” Jayamaha said.  It was also emphasized that the SJB will move towards a campaign to promote the party as the sole alternative to the government.

“There is no time for making experiments as the country is facing a deep crisis which is made worse by the war in Ukraine. Therefore there is no time for any experiments and the people must depend on the SJB as we have the best team to resolve the crisis.

MP  Tissa Attanayake who also participated in the briefing said the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) had proved that it is not  capable of developing the nation. “JVP did rule this nation together  with the SLFP but they failed to bring any development,” Attanayake said.
