Sri Lanka is currently feeling effects of a cyclonic condition in the Pacific Ocean, Spokesman for the Department of Meteorology said yesterday.
Deputy Director, Department of Meteorology Merril Mendis told media that strong winds sweeping from the Pacific Ocean had resulted in rainy conditions across the island. “We expect the rainy conditions to enhance further next week,” he said.
The official forecast of the Department said heavy showers above 100mm are likely at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in Galle and Matara Districts within the coming days. Showers or thundershowers are expected at several places in Eastern and Uva Province and in Polonnaruwa, Vavuniya and Mullaitivu Districts.
Meanwhile, the increased showery conditions have increased landslide risks in Kalutara, Kegalle and Ratnapura Districts.
Rough seas were also expected with wind speed exceeding 50 kmph during the coming days.
