Sri Lanka will most likely face a massive surge of Omicron cases as global cases are expected to peak over the next couple of weeks, State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Prof. Channa Jayasumana said yesterday. Against this backdrop, Prof. Jayasumana addressing the media raised the importance of receiving the booster dose as people had shown a slight hesitancy.
“The immunity gained by people through first and the second doses is on the wane and therefore, receiving the booster dose is of utmost importance to avert a major outbreak of Omicron cases,” he added. Meanwhile, State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Prof. Channa Jayasumana said children in the age group from 16 to 19 who have completed three months since the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine become eligible to get the second dose from yesterday.
He requested parents to send their children to get themselves vaccinated with the relevant dose without hesitation or delay.
