The government is planning to invite a delegation from the European Parliament once the situation becomes normal for engagement on steps being taken to improve the areas of concern, Daily Mirror learns.
The European Parliament recently adopted a resolution on Sri Lanka. The resolution calls for, among others, the scrapping of the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
The resolution calls for considering the removal of GSP+ trade concession unless Sri Lanka acts for the implementation of 27 international conventions. Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardane said the government had decided to revisit the PTA. “We are ready to invite a team of EU parliamentarians,” he said. He also said Sri Lanka remains engaged with countries in the European Union.
