While appreciating the move to appoint an Interim Committee for cricket administration, NPP MP Vijitha Herath raised doubts about the members appointed to it.
Speaking during the debate on the resolution to remove SLC office bearers, he told Parliament that former captain Arjuna Ranathunga should not have been appointed as the Interim Committee Chairman claiming that he had previously contested the SLC election for the post of Chairmanship.
“We appreciate the move to appoint an interim committee. But, we have doubts on the members appointed to it. Why were Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe’s son, Mohamed Muzammil’s son and Upali Dharmadasa appointed as members, he questioned, and said “Arjuna Ranathunga should not have been appointed as the Interim Committee Chairman. He once contested SLC election and therefore, there is a clash and two factions involved in the matter. This is also not good for the future of cricket.”
The MP said someone was playing games using the courage and honesty of Minister Ranasinghe through the appointment of the interim committee and asked the Minister to beware of those who were behind the game, claiming that such games are also not good for the future of cricket.
Minister Roshan Ranasinghe, who responded said he appointed Ranathunga as the Interim Committee Chairman as he had not been given an opportunity to contribute to cricket administration and he wanted to give him a chance this time.
