The SLFP requested the government yesterday to bring the country under what it called a ‘scientific lock down’ after a thorough assessment of opinion expressed by the Medical Experts, virologists and community physician in support of an island wide confinement to plug the sharp increase of the pandemic.

General Secretary of the SLFP, State Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara told the media at the party office that the government had to act fast before the controlling  of the Covid- 19 got out of hand.

“Data shows that the patients fallen victim to the pandemic and the number of Covid- 19 related deaths are rising in a rapid phase daily. All medical specialists, virologists and community physicians are of the view that all travels, gatherings, assemblies and meetings must be fully restricted and the country must be brought under a lock-down for at least a limited period of time to contain the pandemic. The SLFP supports the experts’ suggestion. The government must go for an island- wide lock-down after reviewing expert advice,” Minister Jayasekara stressed.
