Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa requested the delegation from the European Commission to refrain from withdrawing  the GSP + trade concession to Sri Lanka but stressed the need to prevail upon the Sri Lankan government to uphold human rights and civil liberty, a party official said .

Premadasa, along with his MPs Dr. Harsha de Silva and Lakshman Kiriella, met with the delegation from the European Commission on Tuesday to provide an assessment of the situation here to enable the extension of the trade facility .

Kiriella told Daily Mirror the opposition leader had requested the delegation not to withdraw this facility since such an exercise would compound the economic crisis exacerbated by the pandemic.
