Leader of the Opposition met the Russian Ambassador in Sri Lanka Yury B. Materiy and requested the Russian government to assist Sri Lanka to help arrest the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr. Premadasa who met the Russian Ambassador requested Russia to provide mobile hospitals, PCR machines, ICU beds and other medical equipment.
“Sri Lanka is going through a difficult period with the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and is in dire need for ICU beds and PCR machines. Therefore I am making a humble request from Russia to assist Sri Lanka,” Mr. Premadasa said.
“We the main opposition in Sri Lanka has decided to join the national effort to fight the pandemic,” he said. A video clip of the meeting was released by the Opposition leader’s office last afternoon. The Opposition Leader’s office claimed that Mr. Materiy keenly listened to the request made by Mr. Premadasa.
