Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa who met the visiting IMF delegation at the Opposition Leader’s office yesterday briefed them on the adverse effects of the Domestic Debt Restructuring programme.
Sources from the Opposition Leader’s office said Mr. Premadasa briefed the IMF delegation on how the government decision to get EPF participation on the debt restructuring programme would affect beneficiaries of the Fund.
“Mr. Premadasa also discussed the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) agreement which the IMF had signed with Sri Lanka. The Opposition Leader informed IMF that Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) will re-negotiate and revise the EFF agreement in the event it forms a government in the future,” the Opposition Leader’s office said.
MPs Kavinda Jayawardana, Harsha de Silva, Professor G. L. Peiris, Kabir Hashim also accompanied Mr. Premadasa while the IMF delegation included Senior Mission Chief Peter Breuer, Deputy Mission Chief Katya Svirydzenka, IMF Resident Representative Sarawat Jahan and Representative of IMF Communications Department Lan Huong Vu.
