The SJB Parliamentary Group decided that leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa should contest for the presidency, MP Mujibur Rahman told Daily Mirror yesterday.
Mr. Rahman said it was a unanimous decision of the group.
The group has had lengthy discussion at the Opposition leader’s office last evening. Earlier Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella said the SJB was making an effort to put forward a candidate for presidency with the support of all opposition MPs. Meanwhile Sajith Premadasa tweeted “I am contesting to be the President. Electorate is confined to 225 MPs with the GR coalition dominating the numbers. Even though it is an uphill struggle I am convinced that truth will prevail.
