Public Security Minister Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera said former Western Province Governor Azath Salley must go to Saudi Arabia if he would not respect the law of the land but Sharia law and Muslim law only.

Minister Weerasekera told the media that no one is permitted to break, insult or bad mouth the country’s law but to respect and follow it.

“If he can’t accept or respect the law of Sri Lanka, he cannot remain in this country as a Sri Lankan citizen. It is because of these kinds of disparaging comments that feed extremism and terrorism in any country”.
“If he wants to act according to Sharia law, he must go to Saudi Arabia. He cannot live in Sri Lanka. As long as he lives in Sri Lanka, he should act according to the law that prevails in Sri Lanka.

Therefore, I have instructed the CID to record a statement from this man and take action against him,” Minister Weerasekera added.

Addressing a ceremony held yesterday at Bodhirajaramaya at Kalutara Minister Weerasekera said he signed two Cabinet memos that seek the approval to ban the burqa that covers the face of a Muslim woman fully and Madrasas set up in Sri Lanka that promote Muslim fundamentalism.
