Sanath Nishantha’s wife questions about his death, complaint with CID

Lawyer Chamari Priyanka, the wife of former state minister Sanath Nishantha, has raised concerns over the circumstances surrounding her husband’s death and has lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday.   She lodged the complaint alleging that there are suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of late Sanath Nishantha.  

In her complaint, she has further requested that an investigation be conducted.  


State Minister Sanath Nishantha and a police constable who served as his security officer died in an accident on the Katunayake Expressway near Kandana on January 25.   


The SUV Nishantha was travelling in towards Colombo from Katunayake, crashed into the rear of a container truck before colliding with the safety fence.   


According to police investigations and statements made by the drivers of the late state minister’s vehicle and the container involved in the accident, a combination of factors, including high-speed driving, negligence, poor street lighting.
