The body of a 16-year-old girl who went missing on Monday was found in a well at Ganeshpuram, in Vavuniya yesterday.
Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said a complaint had been received by the Nellukulam Police in Vavuniya Monday night claiming that the girl who had gone to a tuition class had not returned.
The Police later found the girl’s body in a well nearby her house.
The spokesman said the girl’s tuition books and a pair of slippers were also recovered near the well. Investigations revealed that the girl’s parents had been separated a long time ago, and she was living with her relatives.
SSP Thalduwa said an investigation is underway to determine whether the girl’s death was a murder or a suicide. The post-mortem examination into the death will be conducted on today.
