The shortcomings that were observed in the vaccination drive are being considered and rectified, Army Commander General Shavendra Silva said.
He told media that there were minor hiccups at the vaccination centres and added they had identified such faults and were on the process of rectifying them.
“As far as the vaccination drive is concerned, the main concern right now is on the Western Province. There were incidents where there were long queues at the vaccination centres,” he said.
“The health officials make an announcement to a particular Grama Niladhari Division prior to the date of vaccination. We have set up at least three centres in a Grama Niladhari Divisions. These issues occur when people from other Grama Niladhari Divisions also rush to the centres despite making the announcement ,” the Army Chief added.
Hence, he requested people to be patient until they got their turn to receive the vaccine.
The Army Chief also said it would take another few weeks to commence the vaccination drive in other provinces.
