Slight drop in vegetable prices in Nuwara Eliya

President of the All-Island Economic Centre Collective Aruna Shantha Hettiarachchi said that vegetable price in Nuwara Eliya had dropped to a certain extent with the end of the festive season.


Giving a special statement to the media, he said that the purchase price from farmers has also decreased and the wholesale price has reduced concurrently while keeping a small profit.

Yesterday’s wholesale price of cabbage was 165 rupees and carrot was sold at 295 rupees, leeks at 165 rupees, radish at 85 rupees, beetroot at 195 rupees, beetroot (cut) at 245 rupees, Nuwara Eliya potatoes at 240 rupees, potatoes at 260 rupees, knol khol at 200 rupees, beans at 270 rupees, bell pepper red at 2,300 rupees, bell pepper yellow at 2,000 rupees, bell pepper green at 1,300 rupees, broccoli at 2,300 rupees and red radish at 1,200 rupees, he added. Consumers said that even though the wholesale price has dropped, the retail price remains the same in Hatton.
