Some SJB MPs are of the opinion that they should support President Ranil Wickremesinghe at a future Presidential Election on the condition that he appoints Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa as the Prime Minister if he emerges victorious.

A former Member of the SJB who is now a minister told Daily Mirror that  some SJB MPs have proposed conditional support.

Commenting on the matter SJB MP Rajitha Senaratne said one MP from the party had already met President Ranil Wickremesinghe and had told him that he and others are willing to support him if a General Election or a Presidential Election is held on the condition that Mr. Premadasa be appointed Prime Minister.

“There is no need for a new agreement as it is obvious that Mr. Wickremesinghe would appoint Mr. Premadasa as the Prime Minister if a General Election or a Presidential Election is held,” he said.

Meanwhile SJB MP Rohini Kaviratne when asked by a journalist to compare Mr. Premadasa with Mr. Wickremesinghe was reported as saying both leaders are like her two eyes.
However it was reported that the SJB is divided on the issue.
