Special Commodity Levy on imported potatoes extended for four more months

The Special Commodity Levy imposed on imported potatoes will remain in effect for an additional four months starting from September 8, State Minister for Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said.  


On March 8, 2023, the Ministry of Finance decided to increase the Special Commodity Levy on imported potatoes by Rs. 30 per kilogram for a six-month period, resulting in a new levy of Rs. 50 per kilogram.  


President Ranil Wickremesinghe, in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilisation, and National Policies, has issued a fresh gazette extending the effective period of the levy for an additional four months.
