Special committee to look into parachute accident

A Special committee had been appointed to look into the parachute accident during a training session at the Sri Lanka Air Force Parachute Training School in Ampara in which an officer of the SLAF had died and an airman was injured on Saturday.   

SLAF spokesperson Group Captain Dushan Wijesinghe said that the parachutes of the officer and the airman had collided during the landing.   


“They might have collided with each other due to the sudden change of wind direction and fell on the ground about 40 feet.   


The injured airman was admitted to the Ampara Hospital. 

 
They were attached to the SLAF Vanni Base and reported to the Ampara Training camp on January 11, 2021 for free parachute training.   


The deceased officer, identified as 34-year-old Squadron Leader Manoj Padmathilaka, a resident of Polgolla.
