Despite the Health Ministry stressing that they were on high alert on the spreading of the Indian variant in the country, the Public Health Inspectors who are in the field slammed the Government for not paying adequate attention to prevent further spreading.

PHI Union Head Upul Rohana told Daily Mirror that the Government had not yet initiated a proper plan to combat the dreaded Indian variant, code named  Delta. “What is happening right now is that the Government is continuing with the same action plan that they have been following since the beginning of the outbreak. There should be a new action plan to counter this situation,“ he said.
“If no proper action plan in place, Sri Lanka would soon experience what India had to experience a few weeks ago.

A greater catastrophe would be inevitable if the Government does not take the current  situation more seriously,” he emphasized.
