Sri Lanka courts more and more tourists from Ukraine

Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga who undertook a tour of Ukraine said a five-year plan would be implemented to revive the Covid-hit tourism industry.


The Minister made   these remarks when he met with the travel organisers of that country. He briefed them about the pilot projects launched by Sri Lanka to resume tourism with the participation of tourists from Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

As many as 2,258 tourists arrived in the country under the travel bubble concept, and only nine of them were found infected with SARS-CoV-2. All the infected tourists returned home after recovery in Sri Lanka.


The Minister said the government had prioritised mass roll-out of vaccines against Covid.  


Around 150 travel agents from Ukraine attended the meeting.
