The country has reached its worst and highest level in the COVID pandemic, the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) General Secretary Dr. Nalinda Herath said.

Addressing the media, he said the worst situation is not only the increase in the number of deaths, but the number of health officials being contracted with the virus is also increasing.  Accordingly, the number of COVID patients had reached beyond the level of hospital treatment capacity. as a result of the pandemic, hospital beds and intensive care facilities were spilling over, Dr. Herath said.

“On the other hand, we are facing a huge problem in finding human resources due to the escalating number of medical staff contracting the virus,” he added.
