Power Minister Gamini Lokuge said his Ministry would explore the possibility of grid connectivity with India to sell off excess energy to be generated in Sri Lanka.
In an interview with Daily Mirror, the Minister said the same possibility would be explored with Singapore. He said preliminary discussions were held when chairman of India’s Adani Group Gautam Adani visited Sri Lanka recently.
Emphasising that Sri Lanka plans for generation of renewable energy for 70 per cent of its requirement by 2023, he said all the thermal plants would be closed by that time.
Adani Group signed an agreement with Sri Lanka to develop the West Container Terminal of the Colombo Port. Mr. Adani who was in Sri Lanka visited Mannar.
