UNP Chairman Vajira Abeywardene told a press conference that Sri Lanka should stop using expired fertiliser as it is toxic and should shift towards using the right kind of fertiliser and right kind of agriculture methods to increase production.
“Sri Lanka has been importing expired fertiliser for the past few years. This should be stopped. Therefore the government should decide on getting the right kind of fertiliser.
“Even the organic fertiliser could be toxic if outdated stocks are made use of,” he said. He said the government should shift over to the right kind of power generation. “The LNG power plant projects which the previous government had begun does not seem to be continuing. We would like the government to come up with its policy on power generation,” he said.
