Starlink Satellite Internet Services: SL seeks World Bank help to draft regulations

The government has sought the expertise of the World Bank to draft new telecommunication regulations for the introduction of Starlink satellite internet services , a Minister said yesterday.  Elon Musk’s Starlink internet is now open for pre-order in Sri Lanka, with the public able to reserve Starlink by paying a fully refundable US $ 9 deposit.  

 Starlink aims to commence service in Sri Lanka in 2024, pending regulatory approval.  

Asked about the current status of evolving regulations , State Minister of Technology Kanaka Herath said World Bank support had been sought .  

He also said his Ministry would consult the authorities of the countries that introduced such regulations.
