Cooperative Services, Marketing Development and Consumer Protection State Minister Gunapala Rathnasekara said he tendered his resignation to the President yesterday.
He told Parliament that the President did not accept the letter at that moment and that however, he explained to the President that he could not function as a Minister due to the prevailing situation in the country.
“I honestly accept that we cannot function in ministries without political and social stability,” he said.
Mr. Rathnasekara said people were rejecting this administration and the present crisis situation should be addressed immediately.
He said governance of a single party was not accepted by the people right now and pointed out that an all party government should be formed at least for six months until this crisis was resolved.
