Stringent measures will be taken in due course if the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the country goes out of control, Deputy Director-General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said yesterday.
Addressing a media briefing at the Health Promotion Bureau, he said that the decision to impose travel restrictions or lock-down would be decided by the government accordingly.
“The health authorities have been taking relevant steps after reviewing the situation from time to time,” he said.
“We, at present are facing the COVID-19 situation while maintaining a balance with economic and social aspects,” Dr Herath pointed out.
However, he stressed if the authorities felt that the restrictions should be tightened or the country should go for lock-down, appropriate measures will be taken without hesitation.
Dr. Herath also reiterated the importance of strictly following the health guidelines and practices until further notice.
