Referring to the suspension of scheduled surgeries at Peradeniya Teaching Hospital due to shortage of medicines, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said he has informed Indian High Commissioner Baglay to contact and discuss how India can help.
All scheduled surgeries at Peradeniya Teaching Hospital have been suspended due to a shortage of drugs and consumable items.
The Indian Foreign Minister said yesterday that he was disturbed after hearing the news and had informed High Commissioner Baglay to see how India can help to resolve the matter.
“Disturbed to see this news. Am asking High Commissioner Baglay to contact and discuss how India can help,” he responded to a tweet.
The Indian High Commission said that they contacted Prof. Lamawansa, VC and the Dean of the Medical Faculty of Peradeniya University and requested to know their requirements for medicines to continue regular and scheduled surgeries.
Meanwhile, the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital yesterday resumed all surgeries after the Medical Supplies Division (MSD) assured relevant stocks, the Hospital Director told Daily Mirror.
He said they already had relevant stocks, however, the decision to suspend scheduled surgeries was taken as a measure to save medicines for emergency surgeries.
“As we are now assured of more stocks from MSD, all surgeries can be carried out without a hitch,” he added.
All planned surgeries were suspended since Monday due to a shortage of drugs and consumable items.
