The talks between the Education Minister and the Teachers and Principals’ Trade Unions this morning ended without reaching a final agreement, the Ceylon Teachers’ Service Union General Secretary, Mahinda Jayasinghe, said.
He told the Daily Mirror that the action by teachers who refrained themselves from engaging in online teaching will continue, leading to the planned massive strike that is to be held today.
During the discussions, the Education Minister promised to submit a proposal at the next Cabinet meeting to resolve the current issue of salary anomalies for the teachers, he said.
Mr. Jayasinghe said that they were not ready to abandon the trade union action until a permanent solution was found.
Meanwhile, Ceylon Teachers’ Union (CTU) General Secretary Joseph Stalin said that they were not in a position to trust the Cabinet proposal because a similar proposal had already been made during the previous governments too.
