Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa yesterday urged the government to reverse its decision to open up state offices considering the new situation with regard to COVID 19 pandemic.
Raising a question under standing orders 27(2) Premadasa said the government should reconsider its decision to call all public servants to report to work as the country is about to go into another wave of COVID 19.
“Some medical experts such as Dr. Malik Peris who is well versed with the pandemic has stated that Sri Lanka is in for a worst wave of the pandemic.
“Government should take into notice these warnings and take steps to avoid a disaster,” he said.
Also he said more children have been affected with COVID 19 lately and the Lady Ridgeway Hospital is running out of facilities.
“One also wonders as to how the Deputy Director of Health Dr. Hemantha Herath states that health officials cannot be responsible for regulating COVID measures in public transport,” Mr. Premadasa tabled pictures of COVID patients sleeping on the ground in hospitals.
