A hospital staff member attached to the Maharagama Cancer Hospital was yesterday ordered to be remanded till February 28 by Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing hospital medicines and selling them to cancer patients.
Suspect Nissanka Udayanga was arrested by the Bribery Commission over a complaint that a medicine known as carboplatin used to treat cancer patients is being sold to cancer patients for Rs.21,000. It was revealed that the suspect had stolen a stock of carboplatin donated by donors to the Maharagama Cancer Hospital. The officials of the Bribery Commission stated that a stock of medicine was recovered from the residence of the suspect.
