Sri Lanka is to kick off the programme for third coronavirus vaccine doses from today (01). Director-General of Health Services Dr Asela Gunawardena said the third dose rollout would be carried out according to the priority list followed at the beginning of the vaccination drive.
“Accordingly, the frontline health workers and other health workers including personnel of tri-forces and police will be vaccinated followed by people engaged in airports, ports and tourism sector,” he explained. “After that, people above 60 and those with illnesses between the ages of 30-60 will be administered the vaccine,” Dr Gunawardena said. Lastly, he said all those above 20 years of age would be given the booster shot. “Everyone will be vaccinated with the Pfizer jab and the third is given after six months of the second shot,” the Health DG added.
