Claiming that the budget 2024 presented by President Ranil Wickremesinghe was an election budget, SJB MP Dr. Harsha De Silva said an election is on the cards next year.
He told the media after the budget speech that the President had granted various concessions such as Rs. 10,000 allowance to state employees in preparations for the election next year.
“There is an election next year. Various concessions were given in preparation for the election. The election may be held in April or October,” he said.
Dr. De Silva said the President, however, had attempted to steer the economy in the right direction and that it was doubtful if the attempt would be successful.
He said these proposals would only be mere proposals without sufficient funds to put them into practice.
“The debt threshold has been increased. How can we obtain more loans? What will happen to the interest rates,” he questioned.
