Those who have not taken both jabs of COVID-19 vaccine will be legally barred from going to public places in the near future, Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella informed Parliament yesterday.

Minister Rambukwella said he had received the green light from the Attorney General to introduce laws to that effect.

“I inquired from the Attorney General whether it is possible to introduce a law under which those who have not had both jabs of COVID-19 vaccine could be barred from going into public places, and I have got the green light for it. Therefore, a law to this effect will be introduced soon,” the Minister said.

Also, he said the alleged reports that the effect of some vaccines have declined cannot be ruled out. “These reports which said the effectiveness of some vaccines have been declined, and we cannot rule it out. However, Sri Lanka’s policy is to use WHO as a parameter. It takes ten years to experiment with a vaccine and to get it approved. However, this tradition had to be overlooked as COVID-19 started spreading fast,”
he said.
