Those candidate who use GPS to find their constituency are not eligible to be elected to Parliament, Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe said yesterday.   “ How could those candidates who cannot find their constituencies without GPS go to Parliament?” Wickremesinghe questioned during a rally in Matara.

“National People’s Power (NPP) has fielded professors, lawyers and other professionals. They may be educated but they are not aware of politics. Even a singer could come to Parliament but they cannot be a success without political knowhow. Likewise politicians cannot either sing or teach in universities,” he said.

He said the appointment of Harini Amarasuriya at the time of her appointment as Prime minister did not enjoy a majority in Parliament.” Some lawyers met me and proposed that we file legal action against her appointment as it was illegal then. It was illegal as they should have asked Mr. Gunawardena whether he would continue with the premiership. They should have also asked the then opposition leader whether he was eying for the premiership. I told those who wanted to file legal action that it was not necessary. Harini was a student of Bishop’s College like me. I had my early education at the same institution, “ he added. .
