In a fatal road accident at Gajaneggagama on the Anuradhapura – Padeniya road yesterday afternoon, a car had veered off the road and crashed into a tree causing the death of three passengers including a five year old boy.
The car had been driven by a woman. Her father Sunanda Warnakulasuriya, her son and her mother M.M.Leelawathie who received serious injuries had died on admission at Wariyapola hospital. The woman who drove the vehicle and another woman occupying the rear seat had been admitted to Wariyapola hospital and transferred in critical condition to Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.
Investigations revealed that they were on their way to Colombo when they met with the accident. The boy and father had been occupying the front seat and the two elderly women, the rear seat.
OIC Nagollagama Police CI Duminda Kumara and Sergeant Anura, and PC are conducting further investigations.
